Why 2 AM feeds feel harder — and how dim-screen logging helps

30 July 2026 · 3 min read

Night feeds are a logistics problem. Bright screens and guesswork make them worse.

Prolactin is higher at night, which is useful for milk and useless for arithmetic. Parents under-count night feeds, mix up sides, and then worry at dawn that the baby “didn’t feed”. A dim log beats a bright notes app.

2 AM Feed Mode in Midwife Pocket drops the palette to night slate, enlarges tap targets, and records left, right, bottle, or formula with one thumb. Wet and dirty nappies sit on the same screen so you are not hunting tabs.

If output drops, or the baby is not waking to feed, that is a same-day midwife or paediatric call — not a journal setting. The mode is a torch, not a clinician.
